August 8th, 2008 Increased Gaming Notebook Saturation Good for Customers

The days where laptops for gaming were a specialist market are fading really fast. Sure they were not made in significant quantities but system builders did generate a lot of profit on them. These were the type of notebooks desired by many but the price was just too high. Obviously as they were so state of the art they were the best laptop computers in relation to speed. Regardless of whether that was true I believe the prices were so expensive that we would buy laptops that were not so great instead. These days things vary a lot with international brands also making gaming notebooks.

Laptops for gaming are typically not affordable by people and tier 1 companies know they can benefit from the big profit margins even further with their bulk manufacturing. With such minute profits on other notebooks its no surprise they would like to be involved. Big brands would certainly find it easier to get prospects to buy these laptop computers. I do not know what this will do to littler companies but it will have a bad effect on them. Plainly what I see happening here is that the larger manufacturers cutting prices in the beginning to get rid of the competition from littler system builders. People just feel much more confident making a massive purchase from a brand name.

Amazingly, the notebooks they are introducing are a couple of the best laptop computers to present. I reckon that local businesses may still have a chance. I can predict the option of getting to customise the notebook to be an important buying factor. Educated in the technology, these sort of purchasers are savvy to what details to look for. The fine point are of great importance for this sort of purchaser. This will be seen as a good development for the consumer. This would continue to make the premium technology increasingly accessible for the customer. Its hard to predict what could occur to be honest as the industry is a fast moving one. Whether technology prices will decline on the whole is an additional matter but the best laptop computers are typically expensive. Greater competition traditionally provides better products at cheaper prices so the times ahead should be promising.

June 26th, 2008 Advancements in Computer Technology

With technology progressing as fast as it is at the present, it is a wonder we do not have a new mass-marketed gadget appearing every few minutes. Personal computers, once predicted to be owned by a mere handful of individuals, are everywhere nowadays. If you are a student a personal computer is virtually a necessity. Accompanying the ever-increasing popularity of the personal computer is a plethora of gadgets and technological advancements. Though it may not be every few minutes, it seems as though every couple of months we hear about a computer with more storage space or a new device that one can connect to their computer.

Some devices that appear on the market are either completely superfluous or not so accessible to the entirety of the population, whether it is because of their cost or their limited supply. The costly devices are reserved to those who can afford them, until some new gadget replaces them and the price of these machines decreases, much like any new technology that appears on the market. Those gadgets, which are unnecessary, are not overly practical and the market for these creations is comprised mainly of those with an affinity for such devices. Inventions like webcams, while they are certainly fun to play with, are essentially unnecessary as they have no bearing on the actual operation of the computer and are used largely for leisure computer activities.

The more purposeful advancements in computer technology revolve around those, which increase the computers ability to manage certain tasks and those, which increase the storage space of the computer. Many personal computer owners find themselves craving more space to store songs or various other files and often wishing that their computer were faster. Though many computers produced today have a excessive storage space, that is, it is nearly impossible to fill a personal computer to capacity, these types of advancements permit a much speedier and more efficient functioning computer.

June 3rd, 2008 How I Managed To Afford A New TV

I came home from work this evening and couldn’t believe it when the TV wouldn’t switch on! As much as I tried it just wouldn’t power up and it meant I missed a whole evening of soaps!

So, with nothing better to do I switched on the computer and decided to have a look online. Now as I am sure most of you are in the same position - I am on a tight budget. It’s difficult because with 3 children in the house I wanted something decent, especially a decent size as all of us often sit around and watch the TV together.

Finally I found a beautiful home cinema system. I know it sounds silly but it was like love at first sight, it was lovely and I knew I wanted it! With surround sound speakers, the flat screen TV was exactly what I and the family needed.

Trouble was as much as I juggled money around and tried to save in other areas I could not afford the TV. I was heartbroken, I Had my heart set on it. Not one to give up I decided a few days later to see if there was any cheaper way to get the TV. I stumbled across Discount Shopping UK which offered 20% off the total cost. I couldn’t believe it - It brought the cost of my TV just to the budget I could afford. The TV arrived this week and I love it, the kids love it and we spent the first night after it arrived all sat down together watching DVD’s.

June 2nd, 2008 Help to Keep Alligators Afraid of Humans!

Alligators are amazing creatures and surviors. However they have built a certain reputation of being very deadly and dangerous creatures. The American alligator is normally a somewhat docile creature who has a natural fear of man. Yes there have been attacks and deaths caused by alligators on humans, but these attacks can usually be prevented. Most alligators do not view us humans as prey, we are usually to big. Bigger gators do indeed begin seeing us as prey but very large gators like this arent usually to close to peoples living habitats.

The number one way of avoiding attack would be obvious and this is to stay out of areas that they call home. There is a saying that any lake in Florida either has, had, or will have an alligator in it at some point which is very true. So avoiding lakes that arent designated for swimming would be number one of the list to avoid attack. The next would be not to provoke an alligator throwing rocks, taunting, and especially feeding are things that should not be done. Feeding an alligator your may think would be good to keep it full and not look at you as dinner, but however is the worst thing you can do. By feeding an alligator they then start to equate people with food. Which naturally they do not do.

Once an alligator starts being fed by humans they will start coming up and investigating people thinking they will get a free hand out. They inevitable end to this at some point will either be the alligator being killed by a scared human being, or the alligator attacking a human. So please help to keep these wonderful creatures afraid of us humans and do not feed them.

May 31st, 2008 The Insider’s Test Management Tool

The testing stage of software development is definitely the most complex and arguably the most important. From my experience most organizations break down and drop the ball during the crucial testing stage. Success requires very effective test management. Most internal company organizations lack the training and time to effectively act out this vital stage in the software development process. Test management is the most difficult aspect of effective testing because testing requires input from various channels at differing times. Not only do you need to carefully map out tasks and responsibilities but you also need to know what the performance expectations are. I have found test management tools an invaluable resource in accomplishing these tasks. There are management tools for nearly all aspects of software testing including capturing requirements, storing test scripts, and defect management.

There are many different test management tools to choose from. The leader in the industry is by far Mercury Interactive TestDirector. Mercury is the global leader in business technology optimization (BTO). Mercury Interactive is one of the largest and fastest growing enterprise software companies in the world. Estimates show nearly 90% of Fortune 100 companies, and even several government agencies around the world rely on Mercury Interactive to fulfill their BTO strategies. This is a company that you can rely on for high quality and consistent results. Their TestDirector program creates an uncomplicated way to execute and manage the testing process. The primary advantage of using a test management tool is to help you manage your testing in a quick and effective manner. These tools facilitate communication between involved parties and simultaneously cut down on the total amount of time spent developing and running tests. Common features of test management tools include the ability to repeat the process for gathering requirements, scheduling tests, analyzing results, and managing any defects. This adds confidence that your software is going meet performance expectations.

Some common questions Mercury Interactive recommends that you ask several questions before using TestDirector: Does your organization lack the software testing tools to deploy high-quality applications quickly and effectively? Does your organization have the appropriate level of communication, organization, documentation, and structure in place for every testing project? Do you have a consistent, repeatable testing process? Are you leveraging strategic sourcing initiatives for quality assurance? Answering these questions will help you better evaluate your organizations need for test management tools.

TestDirector has four modules: requirements, test plan, test lab and defects management which are integrated to enable a smooth flow of information between various aspects of the total testing process. It is completely web-enabled in order to efficiently support communication and cooperation among testing teams that are dispersed throughout a company. Utilizing a test management tool is truly a wise decision. The efficiency and reliability it brings to an organization exuberates confidence and control that will then be emulate in employee performance. As processes of integration smoothly take place employees gain greater trust in management and the of the company’s ability to be competitive and adapt. Complete and thorough software testing with the help of TestDirector will keep the business running smoothly during and after implementation.

The potential risk of after implementation finding bugs and glitches will cost you money to fix and a lot of productivity. Businesses are run on systems. Good businesses have good systems. Using test management software will ensure that your systems are built on a solid foundation.

May 31st, 2008 ISP Features

Internet service providers are becoming more and more present as the internet makes its way into more and more homes in America. This is making it harder to decide which ISP to subscribe to. In fact, most of them have a list of benefits to entice customers into subscribing from their ISP. Here is some information on the basic features that should come with a good ISP.

First, is of coarse security. With new viruses circulating the internet everyday, you can’t be too careful. That is why it is critical for ISP’s to offer virus protection. However, they are now offering popup blockers also. These troublesome ads can become so frustrating that they too can be considered harmful to your computer. This is why ISP’s have started furnishing tools to speed up customer’s computers and create a more enjoyable internet experience. They are also protecting children from the net by providing blocks controlled by parents to block adult material on the net.

Another, feature you want to have from your ISP is multiple e-mail accounts. In fact, many ISP’s provide between 5 and 10 e-mail accounts to one subscriber. This allows every member of the family to have their own e-mail account. That way a father doesn’t have to put up with the cutsie forwards his daughter receives, and she doesn’t have to put up with her father’s daily stock tips. This is the best way to go if you have a family. The more e-mail accounts the better since it is best to have a professional e-mail account, and another for less formal messages.

If you want your own web page posted on the net, you may be able to get one without the unwanted ads. This is because ISP’s are now offering free web space. This space is limited in size, but does not always have the ads that come with other free web spaces. In fact, your ISP may also provide a template or special tools such as counters to place on your site. You should check with your ISP before placing a business site on the web space provided by them. A lot of ISP’s will not allow that kind of use.

Your ISP may also provide for use from multiple computers in your home. This may be free or may cost you a small fee. However, with multiple access you can have the freedom of completing your work assignments online, while your son is researching for a school paper. Whatever you are looking for you may find it. The key is looking around and comparing the features with more than one ISP. This way you will find just the right features for you and your family.

May 21st, 2008 Cingular Wireless - There For The Consumer

If you are shopping for your first cell phone plan, be aware that Cingular Wireless has some of the most affordable calling plans available. They have plans starting at under $30.00 a month.

Consumer Reports recently rated the basic calling plans from Cingular as some of the most affordable currently offered by cell phone carriers. Cingular ranks third, behind T Mobile and AT&T Wireless. Cingular is rated near the top in coverage provided in cities such as Washington D.C., Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia and Dallas, making it a leader despite its relative newness on the cell phone scene.

Cingular has several plans to choose from. One of the most poplar plans they offer is Cingular Region with 600 anytime minutes and 5000 night and weekend minutes. In addition to the mentioned minutes, there is free long distance anywhere in the United States. This is a great plan for people who travel widely within their regional calling area and make a lot of calls.

There is no worry about long distance or roaming charges. This plan is offered by Cingular for under $50.00 a month. Call Waiting, Caller ID, wireless email and three way calling are available. There is a 45 cents per minute charge for calls over the plan limit and the fee for 411 information calls is $1.29 plus airtime. The monthly plan charge does not include conference calling, voice mail, or two way text messaging. Cingular charges and activation fee of $36.00.

You must sign a one year contract and they charge an early termination fee of $240.00 and depending on a credit check, a security deposit may be requested.

Cingular Super Home 900 with Rollover is a frequent user plan at an average cost of $75.00 to $80.00. Also offered by Cingular is a very popular family plan called Cingular Nation GMS. Family Talk 700 with Rollover allows you to have up to four phones sharing minutes with a charge of only $10.00 for each additional line. The average monthly cost for this plan is about $100.00 per month.

Adding to Cingular’s popularity is full line of phones with every imaginable feature. You can get phones with web capabilities, text messaging, camera phones, voice mail, ability to send and receive email and an almost unlimited number of ring tones that can be downloaded. Be aware though that time spent doing emails, web surfing and/or downloading ring tones, will cost you air time and money. Make sure you know the true cost of these add ons.

If you are a casual user, who just needs a cell phone for use in emergencies then Cingular has some good basic plans to meet your needs. Cingular offers rollover minutes on most of its plans, allowing to you to carry unused minutes from month to month. Whether you use your cell phone only rarely, or max out your minutes every month Cingular Wireless Cell Phones has a plan for you.

Cingular’s Wireless network operates on digital networks TDMA and GSM. TDMA is Time Division Mobile Access. GSM stands for Global System for Mobile Communications. GSM can only operate on other GSM networks, but the DMA network is larger and allows for roaming other TDMA or analog systems. Cingular Wireless is the fourth ranked cell phone carrier in the U.S.

May 12th, 2008 Access Control List in .NET Framework

Access Control List in .NET Framework

Once you complete developing a web application, you need to secure it. This is when the aspect of security comes into picture. There will be some portions of your application which need to be secured from users. Securing an application may need extra hardware to build complex multi-layer systems with firewalls, and also some highly secure features. Security enables you to provide access to a specified user after the user is authenticated and authorized to access the resources in your web application. The Access Control List is used in the authorization process.

The basic concepts of security are Authentication, Authorization, Impersonation and Data or functional security. Authentication is the process that enables to identify a user, so that only that user is provided access to the resources. Authorization is the process that enables to determine whether a particular user can be given access to the resources that the user requests. Impersonation is the process that provides access to resources requested by a user under a different identity. Data or functional security is the process of securing a system physically, updating the operating system and using robust software.

Some elements of an operating system, the Internet Information Server (IIS), and the .NET Framework work in coordination to provide the features required to execute the security concepts mentioned above. For example, Windows 2000 uses its own list of user accounts for identifying and authenticating users. IIS identifies the users based on the information provided by Windows, when the users access a web site. IIS after identification of the users, passes this information to ASP.NET. Then the user information is checked for authorization.

To restrict access to the users for certain resources of an application, a process of identifying the users becomes a necessity. Authentication enables to restrict a user to access the resources by certain ways. It could be a combination of a username and password, a digital certificate, a smart card or a fingerprint reader. The validity of the information provided by the user helps identify the user, so that the user is provided access to the requested resources. The process of successful identification of the user implies that the user is authenticated.

After identification of the user is over, the next step is to determine whether the authenticated user has access to the resources. The process of determining the access to the resources for a particular user is known as Authorization. In Windows based systems, resources have an Access Control List, which provides a list of users who have access to that resource. The list also specifies the kind of access such as read, write, modify, and delete the resource, for each user. For example, if a user requests an ASP page, the operating system checks whether the user has Read access to the page and if the user has read permission, then the operating system allows the IIS to fetch the page. The IIS has authorization settings which enable the IIS to control the access of resources by users. File Access Control Lists are set for a given file or directory using the Security tab in the Explorer property page.

May 1st, 2008 Machine Design Magazine Profiles Manufacturing ERP for ETOs

The October issue of Machine Design profiles Engineer-to-Order
ERP Solutions in an article by leading manufacturing journalist
Thomas R. Cutler (www.trcutlerinc.com). Roger Meloy of Encompix
Inc., (www.encompix.com) an Engineer to Order (ETO) Enterprise
Resource Planning (ERP) software maker based in Cincinnati,
said, “Ask most design engineers what an ERP system means to
them and you are likely to hear ‘nothing’ or ‘more work,’” One
reason for the perception: Most ERP systems are not integrated
with CAD. That’s because traditional ERP systems were developed
for repetitive, make-to-stock manufacturers where there is a
clear demarcation between design and production.

In this environment design engineers create a product in CAD.
After testing and prototyping, the item goes to engineers who
tailor it for mass production and create a bill of materials
(BOM). The BOM is based solely on how an item is to be
manufactured, not on its design, all of which takes place in ERP
software. The design engineer throughout the process has little
or no interaction with the ERP system. Once a design is frozen
there is little interaction between the design and production
departments.

In ETO firms the role of design engineer is very different. Such
companies build products specifically for individual customers.
Design and manufacturing departments work together more closely.
In many cases product design continues through production
(design in process), incorporating several engineering changes
along the way. These changes may be driven by the customer or by
the manufacturer, necessitating a seamless flow of data between
engineering and production.

Integrated CAD-ERP software lets ETO companies pass data both
ways and handle engineering changes in both systems. Without it,
designers are constantly re-keying data from CAD to ERP
software, which wastes valuable engineering time or requires
additional staff.

ETOs, unlike repetitive manufacturers purchase items only one
time for a particular job. Typically the engineer will specify
the item and its manufacturer, bypassing the ERP system
altogether. Makers of ERP systems that collaborate with Product
Life Cycle (PLM) vendors can address these needs. Information
about ETOs can be found at the ETO Institute
(www.etoinstitute.org).

April 16th, 2008 1 Simple Solution to All Internet Marketers about Their Webs

It is an undeniable fact that not everybody is keen and knowledgeable to create an above average looking website. It is also true that it is something learnable, but it might take a certain learning time span in order to grasp the minimum ability to create an over than average website. Everybody from any field, regardless of their objectives, realizes that a website presence is extremely essential for a bigger exposure, and pretty much common to see buyers chasing after the cheapest and the least time consuming offers.

For Internet Entrepreneurs in particular, website expansion is particularly essential. Full time internet business people who relies on their online income to support their livelihood need to expand their income generating sources constantly to multiply and preserve their constant flow of earning potentials.

Everybody agrees that a website regardless of quality and richness of content is totally useless if nobody actually visits it, giving all of us more reason why we should spend more of our time marketing our websites rather than worrying too much about the design. In this world of diversity, specialization is inevitable. Let the experts do what they know and care most. If you think web designing is slowing you down, get the right people and let them cover up the time you need to spend designing your own website.

You might argue that hiring a web designer might be costly most of the time. Analyzing at this issue thoroughly, prices can be either low or high looking at the different ways how the services are delivered. For example, hiring a web designer to deliver a full webdesign solution from scratch to completion, is definitely more costly compared to a web designer providing ready made quality web templates.

Not only you don’t have to worry about quality issues, web templates provide you with the flexibility for you to expand your ideas like never before, especially if they’re designed specifically for your online business needs. Looking at the bigger picture, we can’t possibly argue that time is in fact the most important element which everybody wants to have most. It’s always a big step for any online enthusiasts to have their time spent on something they don’t like doing reduced, and at the same time, get more of your favorite result oriented work done.

Looking at the current development trend, one of the biggest market to venture in are the niche markets. The earning possibilities from such a huge diversed market are by all means, unlimited, which also means that you have to create practically a huge number of websites to cater at least a small portion of it. Nobody wants to be left out of any hot rising niche market.

With the constant evolution of current world trends, niche markets are something which will not cease to expand. The faster you push yourself to stay in tune with this fast evolving market, the better the results you will achieve in the long run.
