January 4th, 2009 Mobile Broad-Band will be the Secret to the Spread of Internet Connections

Mobile broadband has been announced as the trendiest development in the Web that will be the turning point to the development of high speed internet. Up until a few years ago, high speed connection has been provided through a traditional phone landline, high speed connection, which brings internet access to your laptop via an ADSL modem. WI FI high speed internet will soon be increasingly famous, whereby the high speed connection is attached to the PC terminal via a wireless network, and as a consequence internet users are getting rid of ADSL cables. But mobile broad band is pushing things one step further and offering another important step in the evolution of internet; a broadband line pretty much in any room without the need for a telephone landline cable.

The option of having a reliable high speed internet connection at home is surely an attractive idea for potential internet users, like those who more and more go online with their computers not from home. Business people for example who usually travel for work are the main obvious target for mobile broad-band who will surely be interested the opportunity of not having to search for a working WI-FI public hotspot for a quite decent connection. Mobile broadband is going to go further than that, and when prices soon begin to be more and more affordable and internet connection lines go up soon we will experience the majority of high speed connection customers applying for mobile high speed broadband.

Mobile high speed internet works by linking a small portable modem to any modern personal computer, also called a ‘dongle’, from where your PC is able to go online using whichever mobile broad band internet provider the users have registered for. Telecom companies are selling mobile ADSL lines and coverage of the networks, also known as 3G networks, which is now reported to be as much as 90% of England.

Internet speed is a serious issue with any broad band line and mobile broadband providers at the beginning struggled to persuade potential mobile users that any mobile broad-band could be as good as traditional, ADSL landline fast speed connection. Connection speeds are changing, since Vodafone has reported mobile broad-band lines of up to 7 mb, which is not that far from some of the normal landline internet connections. Countries like Great Britain, are ready to invest huge resources in fibre optic cable networks, because they want to speed up high speed internet line to up to 100 mb.

In New Zealand, however, a leading telecom supplier has claimed that mobile broad band networks will soon improve fast in the next future and they have forecasted that mobile high speed connection will deliver connections of up to 100mb in the next three years, the year the UK’s fibre optic network is to be delivered. This could create a major turning point in industry thinking, with the development of a reliable super fast mobile broad-band network with obvious advantages over the installation of thousands of kilometres of fibre optic cables, not least from a practical point of view.

June 6th, 2008 Create your own Website

Web Coast Design, Inc launches Create Your Own Website, www.cyow.com

The most innovative site to date, using cutting edge technology.

Web Coast Design, a web development firm commenced their arrival as a powerhouse Web Development presence when they introduced C.Y.O.W; a valuable web marketing solution for small businesses to create websites. Baguio City, Philippines - May 27, 2005 - Web Coast Design, Inc today announced the creation of www.cyow.com . Create Your Own Website provides affordable solutions for any small business to have an online presence on the Internet. C.Y.O.W provides people with the means for building a webpage and the construction of websites.

Up to now, only large companies or government agencies have been able to afford to take advantage of this technology revolution by having a website. Website makers are now average people who can create personal websites with C.Y.O.W’s web builders. There were an estimated 11.5 million Internet users in the Philippines alone in 2004, and is projected to increase by more than 70 percent to 20 million by 2007.

Bringing the latest in web development tools to the public, the director of Web Coast Design, Ian Agibuay , said ” Where it used to be only in the hands of ‘professionals,’ a lot of hard work went into simplifying a very complex technology such that an average businessman or person can easily create their own website with little or no budget.” The target market for CYOW is initially the Philippines and USA , but C.Y.O.W. has been designed to support other Asian languages, including Japanese, Korean and simplified Chinese. “As we continue to grow, C.Y.O.W will mature to become a gathering place where people - of all skill level - can go to easily develop their own website.”

Most people ask how can I create my own website. To create a website, requires many components. For example you have to pay for Hosting, Domain Names, and Design Services. C.Y.O.W simplifies the complete process and reduces the cost by combining all these items into one low cost service. C.Y.O.W provides to both professional web designers as well as the inexperienced person a step by step approach that does not require any web development skills. With our website building software anyone can be website creators.

C.Y.O.W. sales agent and marketing representative Christine Caoile has worked with numerous clienteles from Baguio City to Manila said, “The number one concern initially for most companies is, the cost of a website, yet once they see how cost effective it is, they see the value in investing their time and money to create their own website.” Having a website is not just for larger companies anymore, and it isn’t a luxury. It’s becoming as basic as a phone listing or a business card. A site on the World Wide Web helps put your business on the map and shows that you’re serious about business.

Organizations like the Rotary Club of Baguio City have the capability of acquiring new members, while businesses like Travel Agencies can increase their clientele by making information easily available. “One website owner has said after posting his store hours, specials, and directions to his place, he has seen his sales increased,” said Christine.

C.Y.O.W - Site Wizard — uses a simple designed 3 step process. Integrated are all the design tools, free header design, email accounts, high quality designs, hundreds of templates available to each account, personalized homepages, and page wizards. We also include statistical analysis, 3 rd party programs and even site back-ups. There are a large number of templates, in a wide range of categories. The statistics page tracks the number of hits, referrals, and page access. No longer will there be the question where can I create my own website.

May 29th, 2008 Custom Icons For Your Specific Brand

Developing a software application is not easy at all; apart from the effective creation of the application you’ll have to think of other things as well, like: making the software easy to work with, giving it a unique and appealing look, making it better than other software, etc. Apart from the qualities of the application, these little things are the ones that promote your software application among the end users. If the application is easy to use, has a friendly user interface, the look of the program is unique yet not too flashy a lot more people will want to have it and use it. On the other hand, we should be careful about the overall look of the entire application because if it looks too different or it is too striking, many of the new users will be reserved in trying it. The reticence might be coming from the fact that, due to the unconventional look, they will think that it is hard to work with this application. Also, the icons of the application must be eye-catching but not too flashy or different from the usual.

In order to have success with your software application it must be different from the others so to have some extra points in front of your competitors. Sometimes, it is not enough to have an application that is working very well because the competition might have the same type of application that has the same characteristics. You have to make your application stand out from the crowd and this can be done very easily. For example, you can make it different by customizing your icons. Using custom icons has many advantages compared with the free icons that can be easily found on the Internet. One of the advantages is the fact that your icons will be different from any other icons found in similar applications. Using free downloaded icons might be tricky because it is possible that somebody else used the same icons and this will not be good for the success of your application. End users might see it as a cheap solution and might refuse to give a fair chance to the software.

Another advantage for using custom icons is that the development process will be completely passed on to the designer of the icons, unless you decide to design them yourself. All you need to do is make the designer understand exactly what you need your icons to look like and how different they must be. Based on those indications the icon designer will produce some sketches that must be approved by you in order to proceed further with the final version of the icons. So, a lot of the work is on designer’s account which must have a lot of creativity in order to produce something unique. Involving a designer in the process of creating the icons for your application will save you a lot of precious time and also will reassure you that no other application will have icons like yours, so it will not be possible for end users to confound your software with others.

While you’re thinking of making custom icons for your application, take in consideration another idea: to make a custom set of icons. A set of icons contains all the possible icons that you will need for or in connection with an application. It does not matter that you will not need all of them from the beginning, because in time it is possible that you will need some extra icons and it is better to have them handy.

To make your application different from the others you can also use favicons, which is short for “favorite icons” also known as page icons. Basically, these types of icons are the ones that integrate into the other application like for example web-browsers. Often favicons represent the organization’s or website’s logo. They are used to build a more customized appearance for the respective application. The use of favicons has some advantages: your application will be easily recognized by the users in case they don’t remember the application’s name, it will promote the logo of the application, it will make your application look more professional, etc. Favicons are usually displayed into the web browsers, next to your website’s page and you’ll not see many applications or websites that have this facility.

Another thing you can do for making your application stand out of the competition is to have custom file type icons assigned to file types by default. Having these distinct file types is not difficult to achieve but they will make a big difference. The end user will have no problem in easily locating the files of your application among the other files. Besides that, having custom file type icons will be another way of promoting the logo of your application; the larger the number of icons and file type icons is, the larger will be the number of people to see and easily recognize your application.

Considering all the above we have to say that having a customized application is better that having one with a common look. Common looks can be easily confounded and the user will not see the difference between one application or the other unless they will definitely be different. For example, if he has two applications for the same purpose and the applications’ icons or file type icons are almost alike, he will choose the first one that he sees. But if one of the applications has a custom, easily recognizable icon he will know as soon as he sees it that this is the application that he’s looking for. These are only few tricks that software designers should take in consideration when making an application that has a commercial purpose.

May 27th, 2008 Choosing Your First Hosting Provider

Ok, you have finished your great new web site. You’ve spent hours upon hours working on the design until you have made it perfect, you have chosen an excellent domain name to use for the site, and a great deal of content. Of course, your next question is “What step do I take next?”. Choosing the best web hosting provider for your needs can be the difference between a successful web site, or a failure.

An excellent site running on a poor host is a recipe for disaster, if your provider cannot keep your site online 24 hours, 7 days a week you could be missing out on visitors and if your site is for your business, this could mean lost sales as well. It is very important to consider several elements when choosing your first web host, too many people are dissatisfied with their current web hosting provider. First and foremost, the best web hosting provider is the one that suits your needs.

Disk Space

The first thing to take into consideration is disk space. The amount of disk space your will require depends on the size of the web site, and of course how much money you can afford to spend. Ideally you should always go with a plan that has room to grow, if your site currently is around 200mb you must ask yourself, how large will the site be in 12 months, or even 2 years. If you plan to serve media files from your site such as videos, flash animations, or any other type of content that tends to be large in size, you will need to allow for this as well.

Bandwidth

The second thing to consider is bandwidth. Bandwidth is the amount of data you will be serving to your visitors, if you have plans of having a high traffic site in the future, you should consider a plan that allows for a high amount of bandwidth. As with disk space, it is also wise to consider more bandwidth than what your site will require initially, not less.

Serving Speed

The speed that pages are served from the host is often overlooked when it comes to choosing a hosting provider, you should always track down other sites hosted at the web host you are considering. If pages are not served in a timely fashion, your visitors may not wait around to view your content.

Final Words

Each of the above elements need to be taken into consideration when you are choosing a web hosting provider, for all the hosts out there this can take considerable time and effort, take the time to research each hosting provider as well as you can and you will be rewarded for your efforts, rushing into a hosting choice is more often than not a bad decision.

May 25th, 2008 Your Website is Ready — Opinions on How to Choose Your ISP

If you ask a friend or a group of people/companies with websites for a suggested ISP (Internet Service Provider), you will get as many recommendations as there are those replying. You may also hear “horror stories” about some of the hosts that others swear by. So, how in the world can you ever choose? In this article, I share my thoughts and opinions on ways to make a sensible choice, but with a happy and prosperous outcome free from disasters.

How do I choose? Price can vary from as little as $3.00 a month to more than $100 per month. (Warning: what follows are the opinions I have formed from my experiences with several different hosts!)

I check to see how long a company has been in business and what corporate backing and rating it receives. Some of the very new hosts may be great, but you don’t want one that comes and goes quickly after you have paid for a year or two of hosting (I never sign up for more than one year at a time).

I make sure that the host offers an excellent statistics package. It is important to know all about your traffic, and especially important if you are designing for others. Their boards and bosses want to know how well the site is doing.

If it is a personal site that I use just for hosting sites on which I am working at the time, then I don’t worry as much about the features, but I do want a site with excellent uptime.

And probably, for me, the most important feature is the amount and professionalism of the technical and customer support. I want to be able to reach a live, polite and knowledgeable person at 3 a.m. in the morning on the weekend, who will solve my problem with ease and pleasure (over a toll free line). Even though most of the hosting companies brag about this feature, many do not follow through to my satisfaction. The only way to find out is to try them.

There are a variety of reasons for choosing your ISP. Write down what is important to you and/or your website designer, and go from there. Happy Hunting!

May 23rd, 2008 Is your website innovative? Increase Your Business Over Night!

While studying online for IT investment opportunities, I found that one main factor was constant. All of the biggest money makers have eye-catching, simple, innovative, and the cleanest websites online!

Having a corporate style website may greatly increase your business!

Looking professional online is extremely important, especially if you want to attract big money to your door. There are literally 1000’s of people and companies searching every single day for their next big purchase, will your company be the next one they contact?

Here are a couple of “corporate style websites” I am talking about:

http://www2.sprintcanada.ca/Enterprise/default.asp
http://www.bell.ca/shop/index.jsp
http://www.cogeco.ca/en/index_o.html

As you notice with all three of those examples, they are clean, simple, innovative and easy to navigate. You won’t notice any flashing buttons, 10 different text colors, everything packed into one page, banner ads in every corner, etc.

The point is - keep it clean!

Have you ever visited a website and you left with a headache? This might be the same for your visitors. People notice when they find clean websites, it actually increases your chances of people reading your content more often than not.

Appearance is everything online. What your website tells people subconsciously is the message they perceive about your business. The more “Mickey mouse” your website looks, the more “Mickey mouse” visitors will think about your business. The internet is very impersonal and in order to increase our business, you need to find ways to subconsciously tell your visitors that you mean business and you’re the right choice for their purchase online.

It takes 2 seconds to look bad online:

This whole process happens within seconds of visiting your website. Let’s say that 70% of your visitors are 1st time visitors and only 4% ever come back, by simply cleaning up your style, it may actually increase that 4% return visitors into 10% overnight. It is that simple.

Redesigning your existing website is very important:

Many people who Redesign their existing website once every 3 years end up increasing their business overnight. Those of you who have had the same website for the last 10 years should really consider updating right away. Updating your website is like turning over a new leaf and coming up with new and innovative ideas to connect with your visitors.

Yahoo.com & MSN consistently update their template(s):

Yahoo & MSN also understand the importance of “keeping up with the Jones’s”. Keeping your website fresh and up to date will give your existing visitors another reason to browse through other sections simply because they have a new found interest and curiosity. Please note: Changing everything around every month is not the key, this method may actually confuse your visitors more than increase their curiosity.

Humans get bored easily:

It is actually really easy to have your visitors lose interest in your company. What would spawn such loss?

- Old outdated content
- Broken links everywhere
- Contact forms that don’t work anymore
- Website templates from the “50’s”
- Content that isn’t related to their search

We as humans have a short attention span. If the website we are visiting doesn’t pique our interest right away, as we say “there they where, GONE!” This is the very reason why BLOGS attract a huge amount of attention online. Not only can you read people’s thoughts, but you can read them every day!

Blogs are a great way to connect with new & existing visitors on a daily basis. Don’t forget, search engines tend to like updated content as well.

Getting back to making more money…

The better you look online, the better your checks will be. People want to know that they made the right decision for their family, friends, or business. Going with a company that doesn’t feel right may embarrass them and decrease your chances at repeat business. People will always recommend a company that they are proud to do business with. It’s the same as getting “recognition” for their recommendation.

Bottom line is this:

Re-think, Re-design, Re-vamp whatever you have to in order to turn over a new leaf for your business. Do this properly, and you too will increase your business over night!

May 18th, 2008 Tips on website design

In this article I will give a few tips of where to find a low
cost web design company and also about the best ways of
producing a quality website.

How many people or companies are advertising their services for
website design?

The answer is a great deal. They surely can not all be asking
for huge sums of money to build and design websites. There must
be some who offer cheap, affordable websites.

If you think about a company or person who is just starting out,
they have not got a very large portfolio of previous work and
clients to show, and in this situation are likely in these early
days to offer you a competitive rate. Once they become more
established they will then no doubt increase their prices.

To find these companies which are just starting out, I would
advise looking on auction websites like ebay, looking in Yellow
Pages, looking in newspapers such as a paper we have here in
Birmingham called bargain pages. Looking on the internet on
search engines and asking family and friends is also other
avenues to explore.

Once you have found a company you need to think about the
content for your website, the colours and also about graphics.
Do you want it have flash design? These are all things to think
about.

You then need to think about hosting, who will host your
website? It may be worth asking the web designer if they can
recommend a host.

Then once you have had your site built you need to promote it.
Building up a regular and constant stream of backward links is
very important as this will result in your website obtaining a
higher page rank and more visitors.

April 29th, 2008 How To Find And Use File-Hosting

What’s the difference?

While surfing the net in order to find free space for home video or favorite songs, users often confuse two things - web hosting and file hosting. So, what’s the difference? First of all, web hosting allows you to place your site on the web. And file hosting gives you free space, where you may store whatever you want - from files to songs. So, now you can save your time looking for file hosting instead of web hosting.

Keywords

First of all you must define why you need file hosting? Basically, there are 4 common types of files - video, images, music and data. If you are looking for any special file hosting server, you should use the keywords “file upload” and add the type of file. For example “file video upload”. Another good way is to type in SE “file hosting”. The best SE in my humble opinion are Google and Yahoo! So, start your search and I’ll tell you how to deal with file-hosting services.

How to use it?

Usually, file hosting services offer you to choose a file from your hard drive. As I’ve already said, you may choose mp3, video or any data you want. But keep in mind that the file must conform to upload restrictions. The upload limit may vary from 10 to 250 Mb.
And this is not the only restriction. There may be upload and download speed limits, free space limits, and so on. But all these restrictions can be lifted if you sign up for “premium account”. So it’s up to you.
After uploading a file you get a link that you can keep in the closet or share. Using this link you can download files whenever you want.
There is no doubt that file hosting service is the most reliable and easy way to share and host your files.

Everyone may take advantages of our free service at http://www.oxyshare.com, that includes unlimited disk space, an endless amount of file downloads and e-mail file delivery. Free registration also gives access to upload files using your favorite FTP client and opportunity to edit or delete files. Using our partnership program registered users may earn money for their files downloads. Uploaded files are accessible for 30 days if there was no request to download. Go to http://www.oxyshare.com.

April 10th, 2008 How to stop readers in their tracks within seconds

If it were not for those spam auto filtering in some systems,
this would have made an effective headline. Then again, that is
exactly what comprises a good classified ad. It stops not only
filters but people on their tracks.

Classified ads have many advantages over other types of media.

They are way cheaper. A 20-word classified is only $100 it has
the tendency to be displayed and run many times over and over.
And there are also some classifieds that are as little as a
nickel a word. Even free of charge, if you can find one.

They are targeted. People looking in that section want exactly
the sort of thing you are advertising. This is especially so if
you choose a niche publication to start with. Just think how you
are being advertised to potential clients.

Readers are not afraid of ruin their magazine by marking up
pages. In the classified ad section, tiny marks do not matter a
bit.

They are easy to test being a direct-response medium. Even if
your ad is already in an old issue of the publication, people
can easily track them when the time comes that they might be
needing what you are offering them.

In the world of today, a small space to put your ad on is no
longer a problem. Even if you only have a minimum 20 words, one
of them can be a website address. That website can provide
unlimited information. All people have to do is visit that site
to get answers to questions that are unanswered.

Ask the marketing experts. In this advanced age, including a
website is far superior to a toll-free number and having to
write more information.

Because you pay by the word or by the line, classifieds should
be an exercise in writing your most compelling and most concise
copy.

Make you ads specific and direct to the point. Bear in mind that
what may be interesting to you might be very boring to potential
customers. For sure, you would not want readers ignoring you
even if you keep on persisting in putting up that same ad.

Whether you are just listing goods for sale, promoting an event
or a service, make sure your classified copy does the job for
you. If you want responses and you want those responses to be
from highly interested leads, try using classified ads.

Ask around. You will see that it will be worth the entire cent
you are paying.
