| January 7th, 2009 | How eBay And Amazon Can Help You Sell The Most Popular Items | ||
eBay sellers are engaged in a constant search for the hottest selling items. Online auctioneers have now more auction sites at their disposal than ever before. Sites such as eBay, Amazon, and Yahoo all offer selling opportunities for online entrepreneurs. But having a place to sell your merchandise is only part of the battle. The next step is knowing how to sell your merchandise. Gone are the days when someone could simply place an item up for auction and expect to receive bids. Now the same seller must be educated in terms of online selling to experience a decent level of success. Sites such as ebaybusinessbook.com offer the type of information that an eBay seller can use to build their online auction business. But the question that still begs to be asked is, “What should I sell?” This is where both eBay and Amazon come to the rescue. Both of these online giants share information on their sales with the general public. Their purpose in sharing this information is to help sellers grow their business so that they can conduct more auctions and sales on their sites. While it might be a self serving action, it can definitely benefit eBay and Amazon sellers. For instance, Amazon and eBay announced that during Thanksgiving of 2005 their top sellers where electronics products. As a seller you can use this information to gear up your electronic sales. You can use wholesale search engines such as www.wholesalequest.com to find wholesale electronic sources. Remember that staying on top of sales trends is the third and most important ingredient in your online auction business. | December 24th, 2008 | How to Select Items to Use the Featured Auction Section of eBay?
On eBay it is utterly simple to list an item in the featured auction section! If you are able to spend on substantial extra fee, you can get your auction featured. There are two price tags for two different kinds of auctions featured viz. for $99.95 you can have a regular auction featured on eBay. And for $19.95 you can have your auction featured in its special category. You will find the featured auction appearing at the top of its category. In the regular auction listing it shall appear in bold. While you are opting for featured auction section of eBay you have to judge for yourself whether your item for auction is worth it or not ? For most items auction featured section does not work since when potential bidder is looking for something specific, they are least likely to browse through the featured sections. So you have to be very careful while selecting items to be in the featured auction section. Items that are supposed to be bought on impulse might get sold well in the featured sections. It is mostly seen that many people who visit the featured sections are actually browsing only to look for something to buy. If an item of yours is not being identified with keywords or is really difficult to search for then the section for featured auction is best to sell your product as the visitor shall find the same on a listing with a huge number of auctions. Featured sections also prove to be good when the eBay users are new and are unable to search effectively with proper keywords. Even if you are selling a popular consumer item, featured sections help you to sell well. | December 1st, 2008 | Everyone Should Sell on eBay
Many online entrepreneurs focus their efforts on their own websites exclusively. Others may also utilize affiliate programs, ezines, and other tactics to increase online business. Those who want to make a living online, however, should never forget to try to find a component of their overall strategy that can be conducted via eBay. No other online marketplace compares to eBay in terms of size and scope. It is a market that simply cannot be overlooked. The sheer number of potential customers that can be reached via eBay cannot be matched by any other site or service. Any online seller wants to get his or her product or service in front of as many prospects as possible. Ebay is a great way to do just that. The level of potential exposure is beyond compare. Additionally, eBay has developed so as to allow sellers to list products in a variety of niche categories, allowing for great prospect targeting. Those who want to find the kind of thing one is selling will find it. Meanwhile, the seller is not required to pay for views by people who have no potential interest in their offerings. Targeted marketing is a key to success and few buying venues allow for the level of targeting provided by eBay. Everyone is familiar with eBay on some level. Its huge member base and remarkable influence have made it instantly recognizable to millions of people. With that level of awareness also comes a level of trust. Many people who would be reluctant to spend anything at an unknown website are more than willing to make purchases through eBay as a byproduct of their familiarity with the site. Many of those who use eBay tend to rely on it almost exclusively for online purchases. The ease of the site’s use and its popularity has created an entire marketplace of people who are eBay-only buyers. Those who fail to sell on eBay never have an opportunity to access this potential market. When one considers the ease of use involved in selling on eBay all of these advantages are multiplied. Setting up a seller’s account is incredibly simple and does not require a great deal of time or effort. The price of listing auctions on eBay is also quite limited. This makes use of the system even more attractive. Those who are involved in online business must consider eBay when concocting their sales and marketing strategies. To overlook this giant is an error of the largest magnitude. There are few other ways to have such potential reach available for such a low cost so quickly. Many who never felt their efforts would translate effectively into the eBay marketplace have been pleasantly surprised at its strength as a revenue producing component of their business. If you have something to sell online, you simply cannot afford to leave eBay out of your overall marketing and business strategy. | November 18th, 2008 | eBay: Nine Phenomenal Ways to Ask for Money and Generate Orders Now!
A call to action is a device used by top copywriters to create a sense of urgency for potential customers to request more information about a product or to buy right away. Although most sellers shy from asking for money or an immediate order, it remains the best way to maximise profits in the shortest possible time. Asking doesn’t have to be rude, or intrusive, and can be accomplished with a single phrase in your listing or its title or sub-title, such as: * Buy Now While the Discount Lasts. * Buy Now While Stocks Last. * Buy Today and Get Another One Free. * Bid Now, Before Someone Beats You To It. * Only Two Left - Buy Now While Stocks Last. * Buy Now and Get (XXXX) Free - Lasts This Week Only! (Try to make that freebie something people might buy in its own right but can’t because it’s only available as a freebie). * Put your product on auction for ten days at the same price the product is available from your eBay shop. Inside the listing, before you even mention the product say: ‘Click HERE to visit my shop and buy at the same price right now without having to wait for the auction to end and without losing out to higher bidders’. * Sell BUY IT NOW but only for products you’ve tested and know their optimum price (the price most commonly achieved at previous auction listings for the item). Buy It Now is a great way to generate impulse buys and can be offered independently or alongside the auction option. When I had trouble selling my cufflinks at auction, starting price £9.99, I uploaded them BUY IT NOW for £9.99. They quickly sold and meant I could relist several times each week instead of waiting for seven day auctions to end. * A visitor who finds your product isn’t quite what he wants right now might be interested in other items you already have or might source later. How do you stop that person moving away and looking elsewhere to buy? Simple: add something like: ‘If this isn’t what you are looking for, email me with your requirements and I’ll see if we have suitable items in stock. Contact me through my About Me page’. The About Me page incidentally, is the only place you are allowed to provide out of eBay contact details.

| November 17th, 2008 | Ebay Powerseller Secrets Revealed - Exploring Ebay’s Certified Provider Program | ||
As the admin of Ebay-Guides, I frequently get emails from readers asking me for what has become the Holy Grail of eBay selling; where are powersellers getting their merchandise. Surprisingly, even I had to spend several hours researching sellers and merchandise before I was able to track down a definitive answer. While there are literally thousands of wholesalers and dropshippers doing business on the internet, I was very surprised to find that the vast majority of auction goods were being funneled through a single company. Delving further into the mystery of why, with all the choices out there, this mystery company had developed such a lock on the auction supply market, I finally found my answer. Buried on a developer page on eBay’s site was a listing of a select few companies that eBay had chosen to partner up with. Ebay calls this program, the “Certified Provider Program” and imposes strict rules for all participants. Getting into the program is a long, involved process, and the list of companies that have successfully applied to, and been accepted into the program is a short one. According to eBay: “The eBay Certified Provider Program was established to recognize the best-of-breed eBay Platform innovators who are helping eBay users grow their businesses through services, including technology or data licensing services.” In retrospect it should have been no surprise that the company with the lion’s share of the dropshipping market would be an eBay partner. Corporate America has always been about one company scratching the back of another. After learning just who this company was, I took a stroll through their website. Not surprisingly, I found somewhere in the neighborhood of 500,000 products available for dropshipping; anything from a toaster to a 60 inch flatscreen TV. Prices and selection were good, but this hardly explained the overwhelming share of business the company was getting, even with eBay’s help. A few more minutes of scanning their site, and I found my answer; integrated software. Reading over the companies service FAQ, I noticed that they were in the unique position of having authored software in conjunction with eBay. What does it do? Quite a bit really. With a few clicks of a button completed auctions could be created and uploaded directly into eBay’s auction platform. Mystery solved. No wonder the major eBay powersellers don’t want this information getting out. With a 2-3 hour per day time investment, someone with even limited computer skills could create several thousand auctions offering just about any product under the sun, and place them on eBay for sale. If you’ve read my prior articles on how dropshipping works, you would know exactly why this is a major money maker. Assuming everyone is a first time reader however, I will briefly explain the business model. Dropshipping works very simply; you as the seller offer goods for sale which you do not own, and only pay for once you have received payment. This means you have zero inventory costs, zero warehousing costs, and no shipping hassles. You are quite literally just an advertiser. I’ve written several free guides about how to effectively make use of dropshippers, and how to limit costs when listing auctions on eBay which can be found on various sites across the web, or on my own. So who is this mystery company eBay has partnered up with? The powersellers certainly do not want you to know, and thus far they’ve been successful in keeping people misinformed. Will they continue to succeed? Quite possibly. If you’d like to get more information on just who these companies are, simply visit Ebay Guides for the complete list and links, or try a search on eBay’s site for “Certified Provider Program”. The simple fact is, the easiest way to make money on a site like eBay, is to work with the same companies they are. While there is no doubt that eBay is making money in some form from these companies, there is little doubt that they are receiving “special” treatment. In my experience, the easiest way to make money is to take the path of least resistance. In this case, eBay is basically telling powersellers who they want them to do business with. Unfortunately, unless you are a major powerseller, they don’t seem to be volunteering that information. | November 15th, 2008 | Beginning eBay User’s Challenge - How to Start Selling Your Stuff Tonight
Unless you’ve been living in a hole for the past ten years, you’ve heard some wild eBay success stories. There was the woman who sold a grilled cheese sandwich that had a burn stained in the shape of the Virgin Mary. (Not only sold it, but grossed a whopping $25,000 for it!) Another man sold a wedding dress way above cost after modeling it on eBay, mostly because of his angry tirade against his ex. Every week, there is another eBay story that seems stranger than the next - usually involving huge sums of money that makes you want to shake your head and ask, “Why would anybody spend money on that?” While the occasional oddity on eBay creates a great news story, the truth is that millions of items are listed every day in every category - from the mundane to the outright strange. In 2005, it was reported that over 740,000 people had launched their own business using eBay. They’re living the American dream. Who are these brilliant people? Single moms, self-publishers, garage sale junkies, retired folks, information brokers, real estate agents, high school dropouts, students, people with disabilities… And just about everyone else! EBay has created a marketplace where there is room for just about anybody. With over 50 million members, there is a market for just about anything to turn a profit. (Not just the ones that find divinity in their kitchen…) The thing that seems to hold most people back from starting an eBay business is fear or doubt. Most people don’t believe that they have anything to sell. They think it can’t be simple enough to do in their spare time. They think they don’t have the skills, the products, or the expertise to put their stuff online. This simply negative thinking packaged as skepticism. EBay has grown up a lot since the days of the beanie baby collectors. If you have something to sell, eBay is the place you can find somebody to sell it to. And you can do it tonight! One man’s junk is another man’s treasure. It’s a cliché, but it rings true. Don’t believe me? Take a look on eBay. Type something you would never buy (short of actual trash) into the search engine. EBay buyers are a strange bunch - a quick look on eBay will show you auctions where people buy broken equipment, not-so-gently-used shoes, empty plastic containers and stained clothing. People buy things that Goodwill would throw away. You probably wonder why. So do I! The truth is, it doesn’t matter WHY anyone buys your stuff on eBay. All you need to know is that they will. Here’s my challenge to you. If you’re considering starting an eBay business, but you’re afraid you will fail, for any reason, it’s time to set yourself straight. Walk through your house and think about what is in your garage, your attic, or your basement that you simply haven’t had the time or will to get rid of. Take a decent photograph with a digital camera, write an accurate description and headline (after your spell check) and put the auction up for a week. Start it out at a few cents. Don’t use bold or anything too fancy. (A counter might be handy, though, to see how many people are looking.) Do this every day for a week. (If you only list one item, you may think it’s a fluke if it sells…)Watch the prices go up. Remember that you’re selling stuff that you don’t think anyone would want to buy. At the end of the week, count your profits. Do you still think that there’s no way you can make a living off of eBay? Imagine the results if you’re selling something that people actually “want to buy”! | November 9th, 2008 | You Won That Ebay Auction! Now What Do You Do?
It’s a heady feeling when you win your first eBay auction: a mixture of happiness and perhaps just a little fear. After all, there seems to be so much to do before you can actually get your item. What do you do next? The simple answer is: you send payment to the seller, as quickly as possible. The quicker you pay, the more your seller will like you, and the sooner your item will arrive. But how you go about it? That all depends on how you plan to pay. PayPal. PayPal is one of the most popular options for paying on eBay, to the point where eBay decided to buy the company. It allows instant electronic payment across the Internet. Money goes instantly from your credit or debit card to the seller’s PayPal account, where they can either use it for Internet purchases or transfer it out to their bank. eBay offer incentives for using PayPal, and almost all sellers now accept it. Its instant nature makes sellers very happy, and means that they can have your item packed and sent and leave you some positive feedback within a few hours of the auction ending. When paying by PayPal, you will be covered by PayPal’s own insurances and guarantees, as well as any that your card might have. Cheques and Money Orders. This is payment the old-fashioned way, and will lead to a long wait to your item. You need to post the cheque or money order, then the seller has to take it to the bank and get it cleared, and only then do they send the item. The only reason to use this method is if either you or the seller distrusts electronic payment methods. If you’re willing to go to the trouble with these sellers, though, you might get an item very cheaply, as most buyers just can’t be bothered. When you pay by cheque or money order, make sure to print the eBay order confirmation page (it will be emailed to you) and put it in the envelope with your payment. Underline or circle key information like your mailing address and the item number. Finally, remember to be patient: keep in contact with the seller, as it really can take a month or two before everything falls into place and your item turns up. Money Transfers and Bank Deposits. Some sellers may ask you to pay them using a wire service like Western Union, or simply give you a bank account number and ask you to pay money into it. Unless you really trust the seller, this is generally a bad idea - these methods are hard to trace and you’re unlikely to get any money back if anything goes wrong. Paying in cash, it hardly needs to be said, is an even worse idea. It’s all a lot to take in, isn’t it? I’m sure by now you’ve got a few questions, which is why the next email will be a little eBay buyer’s FAQ. Let’s hope we can solve any problems you might have.
