The power of the check raise in poker is both awesome and frightening at the same time. When executed properly, it can bring a player some big money in any hand of poker. However, if it’s abused, then as with all things that are overused, it will lose its effectiveness. So let’s talk a little bit about how to properly invoke the check raise. In poker, online poker or otherwise This is a move you want to use on aggressive and loose players. These players are the best to trap with this move because of their egos. It also works well against novice players. Essentially what happens is: you have a strong hand; you think you opponent has a decent hand and are expecting him to bet; so you check just so you can reraise whatever he bets. It’s a great tactic of increasing the funds you take down in winning a pot. So, here it is in action. You have KQ in your hand. You bet. Your opponent raises, you call. Flop comes Q, Q, J. Not bad for you at all, sitting on trips with a high kicker (K). You bet about half the pot. Your opponent raises. You call again. You can see from this that your opponent thinks he has the hand won, but you know better. He’s been playing loose all night, and probably just has a low pair and is trying to use the queens on the board to his advantage. On the Turn, comes a King. Now you’re looking mighty fine, full house, and an aggressive opponent. Now you have Q,Q,J,K on the board. poker. Posted in Gambling Luck, Gaming World, Internet Fun |
